Welcome to the ELL Department Website!
Hello! The ELL department consists of Ms. Gregor, Department chair, and Mrs. Stohlmann.  At Highland Park Junior High School we  only offer classes in level 3 and level 4 ELL.  If your child is a level 1 or 2 (beginning levels for students who have been in the country 1-2 years) we highly encourage you to choose a middle school  in St. Paul, that offers the classes appropriate for their level.

Ms. Gregor teaches the level 4  ELL classes as well as Read 180. In these classes she teaches students the academic reading and writing skills that will enable them to eventually exit ELL and be successful in the mainstream curriculum without English Language Learner support. For a more detailed description of the courses, you may see her course description under the "Ms. Gregor's classes" section of the ELL website.   Ms. Gregor is also the LCD (Latino Consent Decree) contact person.  Ms. Gregor teaches a class in Latino topics, as well. In this class, students study English through the content of Latin American History, Culture, and Geography as well as immigration issues.
Ms. Stohlmann teaches level 4 ELL Language Arts, also.  She teaches the level 3A  Reading and Writing classes and the 3B American History. The  level 3 ELL students receive two classes in ELL to offer them more support.   Level 4  ELL students receive only one class in ELL as they prepare to exit ELL.
The ELL department teachers carefully follows the MN Advanced 6-8 English Language Proficiency  Standards and the MN Language Arts Standards for grades 7 & 8 which include standards for reading, writing, speaking,  listening, and viewing. Please address any questions you may have to either Ms. Gregor  or Ms. Stohlmann .  Call  651-293-8950 Highland Park Junior High School.  Thank you !
