spanish class
Spanish I and II are introduction classes to the language and culture of the Spanish-speaking world. Did you know. . . .

* the U.S. Latino population will make up over 50% of the total population by the year 2050?

* the Latino population in the U.S. is largest in the world?

* Spanish is spoken by over 300 million people around the world?

No matter what a student's career plans may be, odds are that his/her ability to speak Spanish will be a useful personal as well as professional skill to take with him/her from Highland Park Junior High.

Spanish I and II are both fast-paced, demanding and intensive courses. Attitude, much more than aptitude, is what counts in a language course. Anyone can learn to speak another language. In this class, students will learn to understand and speak Spanish quickly, and earn a good to excellent grade if (1) the student is motivated to speak Spanish; (2) the student is a risk taker and curious about other cultures, and (3) if the student is willing to do homeowrk outside of class. Vocabulary review, homework assignments and readings done BEFORE class ensures that the student understands what happens in class.

The Spanish grade is broken down into these categories-
20%- Participation
20%- Prepared and Punctual
20%- Tests and Quizzes
20%- Homework
20%- Mid-term and Final Projects

Throughout the school year, students are also asked to attend field trips in Spanish to the zoo, the science museum, Concordia Language Village, and in times past, to foreign countries!
