The Physical Earth
fg16003009
Geography students will identify, categorize, draw and study the origins of different landforms, continents and energy sources.

Topographic Maps
Students began the unit by creating a Topographic Map of Highland Park Junior High. Groups of students cut ten layers of land along contour lines. Students then traced each level on cardboard, cut and pasted it. Finally, the group taped their ten levels together added hills, title, date, authors and an eight symbol legend.

Landforms
In Mystery Landform Bake-Off, student groups used sugar cookie dough to create a landform.

Plate Tectonics
Students will study the internal forces of the planet. Students will explore the plate movements that create landforms and use their arms to imitate plate movement.

Energy
The study of the physical planet will lead students into an understanding of fossil fuel and renewable energy sources. Students will create and conduct a renewable energy survey.

Energy Day!
All FISH students will participate in Energy Day December 4th.
Students will be split into three different groups that will participate
and tour different "Green" buildings as well as wind and solar sites in St Paul.

Green permission slips are due now!
We need parent chaperones for each group.
Please contact Ms. VanDassor if you are available.
